Sandals Do’s and Don’ts: Cat Footwear Edition

Summer is here, the sun is out, and the beach is calling! That means it’s time to ditch the closed shoes for a bit and whip out those fun summer sandals.

But, while sandals are the ultimate warm-weather wear, there are plenty of ways your look can go wrong! Luckily for you, we’re putting together a simple guide on how best to rock the sandal season this summer.

Sandal Don’ts

First, we decided to start you off on the four very simple things to avoid when wearing sandals:

1. Don’t Overcomplicate the Look

Sandals are supposed to be easy and breezy, so don’t overcomplicate the look. Remember, in summer, less is more. Opt for clean patterns and pastel colours for a relaxed yet chic look.

2. Don’t Hold On to Old Worn-Out Sandals

This summer, ditch those batty sandals asap!

We know that it can be tempting to hold on to your favourite pair of sandals for as long as possible. That feeling of letting go of the one pair that matched every outfit and took you on many adventures can be daunting.

But trust us, it is worth it to start with something new this season.

3. Don’t Be Afraid To Wear Them With Long Pants

Contrary to popular belief, sandals are not reserved solely for shorts; they look great with the right pair of pants!

For example, light fabrics like linen or cotton look great with sandals, as they complement the light, airy feel best associated with summer fashion. Avoid pairing your sandals with heavy materials like denim, as it could look slightly out of place.

Also consider where the hem of your trousers ends. Try choosing styles that end a few inches above the ankle, to ensure the sandal is actually visible.

4. Don’t Wear Socks With Sandals (Unless You Know Exactly What You’re Doing)

We know that this tip is quite a hot topic in the fashion realm, and we’ll be honest, some fashion experts know how to pull this look off.

But there are certainly some sandal styles that just don’t work with socks. For example, the classic strap-between-your-toe sandal should certainly not be worn with socks - you risk the chance of looking like you had to help your mom offload the car, and couldn’t find anything else to wear!

Sandal Dos

On the other foot (yes, pun intended), here are four things to consider doing when strutting in your sandals this season:

1. Do Keep Your Feet Fresh

We’ve listed this tip at the very top, because trust us; it makes a world of difference!

You would be surprised how much of a difference clipped nails and moisturised heels make when wearing sandals. And gents, there is nothing more masculine than investing in good cuticle care every other month —book those pedicures now.

2. Do Choose Quality and Comfort First

Let’s be honest, during summer, most of us practically live in our sandals, so it’s safe to say that investing in a comfortable and durable pair is essential. You’ll also want something that supports your feet, rather than beach flip-flops, which aren’t designed for long wear.

When choosing your pair of sandals for the season, try them on to ensure the fit and feel are comfortable.

3. Do Style Them According To Your Occasion

While we always prioritise your comfort, certain occasions do require a little more effort. Always ensure that your sandals match the dress code.

For a formal event, try to pair them with an elevated outfit, such as chinos, a crisp shirt, or an elegant linen dress. That way, the overall outfit looks intentional.

4. Do Wear Sunscreen

This is perhaps one of the most underrated tips, but trust us here. Applying sunscreen not only protects your skin from UV damage, but it will also help avoid strange patterned tan lines!
