In general we recommend the following guidelines for cleaning the footwear:

Cleaning: on a regular basis, brush away any surface dirt with a soft brush. After extended, rugged use, wash with mild soap and warm water. Be sure to rinse all soap off as it is hydrophilic.

Drying: open footwear fully, remove the insole and laces and dry at room temperature. Never expose to heat!

Conditioning: recommended treatment depends on construction and materials of the footwear (most treatments do alter color and appearance).

It is essential to understand what causes your shoes to start smelling.

Shoes can start smelling for several reasons. Frequent use of a pair is on the top of the list. Shoes absorb the sweat from your feet during the day, and if you don't allow your shoes to dry out properly, you'll start to notice that your shoes will begin to get an unpleasant smell.

We suggest that you try to interchange your pairs on a daily basses. This will allow your shoes to dry out properly.

The short answer is YES you can. But before you throw your pair of shoes into the washing machine read through our following steps to prevent damaging your shoes and possible your machine.

  • Wash sneakers - It is important to note that not all shoes can be washed inside the washing machine. Sneakers and Running shoes are perfect, but we suggest that you never through your leather or suede shoes into the washing machine. You will regret it. For proper cleaning tips on leather shoes, please read our blog here
  • Remove Laces and Insoles - It is essential to remove your laces so that they do not tangle up while in the washer. Next, you will want to put your shoes into separate pillowcases or bags and place them into the washing machine. Your insoles, however, will have to be hand washed. Wash your insoles with warm water and detergent to remove stains and odors. Make sure that you remove all the detergent from the insoles and allow them to air dry properly.
  • Add in other items - Before you begin washing your shoes, add in a few items; such as towels or carpets. This is to prevent your shoes from banging around in the machine while the cycle runs. You should choose a cycle with a low spin speed if possible. We suggest using liquid detergent and cold water to wash your shoes.
  • Drying - We do not recommend that you put your shoes into the Dryer. The high temperatures will damage your shoes. To properly dry your shoes, find a cool and well-aired space to let them dry. Stuffing your shoes with a small towel or face cloth will help your shoes keep its shape.

Following these tips will help you keep your favorite pair of shoes fitting great and smelling fresh.
